Bookdive terms of service

1. What this is

Bookdive is an app for reading books you already have, with an AI that has read them and can answer questions about them while you read.

Using it means accepting these terms. If you do not accept them, do not use it.

2. Your account

You need one to use anything beyond the sample book. One person, one account. Keep it to yourself: you are responsible for what happens under it.

You can delete it at any time from inside the app, and everything goes with it. We may close an account that is being used to break section 3 or section 5.

3. The books you add — the clause that matters most

You are responsible for the books you add to Bookdive.

By adding a book you confirm that you own a lawful copy of it, or otherwise have the right to use it this way. We do not check, and we cannot: a file is a file.

Your books are yours alone. There is no sharing between accounts in Bookdive and there must not be. Specifically, you may not:

• add books you do not have the right to use;
• use Bookdive to distribute a book to anybody else, by any means;
• use the app or its API to extract the text of books at scale, whether yours or anybody else's.

We have built the app to make the last two difficult — an account cannot see another's library, and the data export describes your books rather than handing over their text — but the rule is the rule regardless of whether the technology enforces it.

If you are a rights holder and believe a book is being used on Bookdive in a way that infringes your rights, write to support@bookdive.app with the work, the rights you hold, and what you have seen. We will look at it and act, including removing content and closing accounts. We will do this however small we are; being a small operation is not a reason to have no route.

4. What the AI does with them

To answer a question, the text of the book you are reading is sent to an AI provider. The privacy policy explains this in full and you should read it. In short: it happens on every question, it is how the answers are any good, and we do not let anyone train on your books.

Answers can be wrong. The AI is reading a real book and citing real passages, which makes it much more reliable than one that is not — but it can still misread, miss, or invent. Do not rely on it for anything that matters: medical, legal, financial or safety decisions are yours and your professional advisers', not an app's.

5. Using it reasonably

Do not attack the service, work around its limits, use it through automated clients, or use it to do anything illegal.

There are limits on how many questions can be asked and how many books can be added, they are shown in the app, and they exist because each question costs real money in AI tokens. We may change them; if a change makes the service materially less than what you paid for, section 6 applies.

6. Paying

Bookdive has a free trial and then a paid subscription. Prices are shown in the app before you buy.

Subscriptions are sold and billed by Apple or Google, not by us. They take the payment, they handle renewals, and their terms govern the transaction. Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account settings — we cannot do it for you, and we never see your card.

Refunds are Apple's and Google's to give under their policies. If something has gone wrong that is our fault, write to us and we will help you ask.

A subscription renews until cancelled. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep what you paid for until the period ends.

If your subscription ends, your books, highlights and notes stay. You keep reading; what stops is asking the AI new questions. We do not hold your library hostage.

7. What we promise, and what we do not

We will try to keep Bookdive working and your data safe. We cannot promise it will never be down, never lose anything, or always answer well.

To the extent the law allows, the service is provided as it is, and our liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including for death, personal injury, or fraud.

Keep your own copies of your books. The app keeps them on your device as well as on our server precisely so you are not depending on us, but the original files are yours to look after.

8. Ending it

You can stop at any time by deleting your account.

We can suspend or close an account that breaks these terms — for repeated infringement, for attacking the service, or where the law requires it. Except where something is seriously or repeatedly wrong, we will tell you first and give you the chance to export your data.

9. Changes

We may change these terms. If a change matters, we will say so in the app before it takes effect. Carrying on using Bookdive after that means accepting them.

10. Law

These terms are governed by the law of Morocco, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not take away rights you have under the law of the country you live in.
